"Identity stands at the heart of all Maliza Kiasuwa’s work. Energising juxtapositions of colour, mastery of unexpected material and intuitive compositional structures define a body of work that alludes to African masks as much as to European Formalist painting. Kiasuwa is constantly questioning, probing and experimenting with her deeply philosophical works.
They are as much a interrogation of herself as a European-born, African raised Romanian-Congolese woman of the twenty-first century as they are queries as to what is the nature of art now.
Kiasuwa has exhibited internationally and draws inspiration from Europe, Latin America and Africa through her nomadic existence as a citizen of the world."
